TWC – The Word Connects: Connecting you to God and to one another … Thursday 30 July 2015
What’s your reputation like? What would people say about you whenever your name is mentioned? We all want a good reputation and it has to be earned through good conduct. A man with a good reputation finds favor with many, while people stay away from a man with a bad reputation. Beyond our reputation with people, what is even more important is our reputation with God. How would the Lord describe you or me? Do we have a good repute with the Lord? Sometimes, a man or a woman may have a God reputation amongst people but not a good reputation with the Lord. That is not a good thing too. In 1Sam.2:12, the sons of Eli the priest were described this way, “Now the sons of Eli were worthless men. They did not know the LORD.” How terrible it must be to be described by the Lord this way – worthless and not know the Lord! God saw no worth in them and they did not have a personal relationship with Him. On the other hand, Samuel was described as one who grew “both in stature and in favor with the LORD and also with man.” That’s a wonderful reputation to have isn’t it? As you walk with the Lord today, what reputation would you like to have? Our reputation is very much in our own hands, we decide how we ought to live and how we live determines our reputation. If we are kind and helpful, people will think well of us but if we are mean and nasty, then people will think poorly of us. If we love God, choose holiness and honor God daily, we will also have a good reputation with the Lord. Furthermore, those who choose to walk on the path of righteousness will also have God’s blessings and favor. Sometimes, while we may have a good reputation with the Lord, we may also have a bad name amongst some people, and that’s okay because we cannot please everyone though it should never be a case of having good reputation with God but a bad reputation with everyone else! If we have to choose between doing what is right and pleasing God and doing something wrong that would please man, we must always choose the former. So it is really up to you and me. Have a great day!
Today’s Bible Text: “12 Now the sons of Eli were worthless men. They did not know the LORD. …… 26 Now the young man Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the LORD and also with man.” (1Sam.2:12,26)
