A Prophetic Ministry For Every Believer Part 2 – TWC Daily Devotional – Saturday 15 August 2015

Since the Word of God tells us to especially desire (Greek: zeloo) the gift of prophecy amongst other gifts, that means to burn with zeal in the pursuit of something good, to earnestly desire, to strive after, to busy oneself with, to zealously seek after the gift of prophecy, the question before us is how do we do this? The first and most important principle is intimate communion with the Lord. To desire Him, to know Him, to know His love and grace, to know His truth and power. To have a desire so strong that would change the way we live, the way we spend our time, the way we speak. To become one who absolutely thirst and hunger for time alone with God more than time with the people we love dearly. To want to spend time with God not because we want Him to give us power or tell us something helpful for our ministry, our personal life, etc., but to spend with with God because we love spending time with Him. Some years ago, I had the habit of going on a personal retreat to seek the Lord for His guidance with regards to important decisions I had to make. It was and still is a good habit, but the Lord had to realign my thinking on one of those occasions. On the first day of a retreat, the Lord spoke to me gently yet firmly, “Why do you always have an agenda when you seek Me? Isn’t it enough to just come and spend some time with Me? Do you not think that in spending time with Me, I will tell you everything you need to know about your life and your situation?” Those words hit me like a rock and I repented before the Lord. I proceeded to simply enjoy my time with God and by the end of my retreat, I knew exactly what I ought to do. As you walk with God today, begin your journey in the prophetic ministry by spending not just a few quality minutes but a lot of quality minutes with the Lord. Do not merely desire God at a particular point in the day but at every point of your day. Desire spending time with Him more than you desire spending time with others. And in your time with God, learn to be quiet and listen to what He has to say to you. Have a great day!

Today’s Bible Text: “1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no-one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit. 3 But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” (1Cor.14:1-4)

Day 15

by Rev Joel Yong

Leviticus 12:6 ESV
And when the days of her purifying are completed, whether for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting a lamb a year old for a burnt offering, and a pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering,

Even though it was a celebration of new birth, the offering commanded was one that reminded the parents of sin.

It was deliberate, for a burnt offering reminded the happy parents of the existence of original sin even upon the newborn. It marked the beginning of the child’s life with a reminder of a need to reconcile with God throughout life.

We are never self-sufficient but God is all sufficient and all we need is Him in our lives. Let’s never forget that.
