Don’t Be Fooled, The Devil Is Alive and Active!  – TWC Daily Devotional – Saturday 26 December 2015

the one who is in us is greater

Sometimes we mistakenly think that the devil is far away or even think that he is no longer active, but he is not far away and he is still very active! The Bible says that “the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1Pet.5:8). We live in a decade where I believe the Lord will raise up a strong new generation of leaders for the church, society and family from amongst the children, youth and young adults. This is going to be an incredible decade and it is also going to be a decade of great spiritual warfare because the devil does not want the next generation to be raised and he will do everything he can to undermine it. Thus, the church must not only dwell in the love-and-devotion-mode but shift gear to warfare-mode. The songs we sing in church and the sermons we preach must no longer focus on love, grace and holiness only but also on spiritual warfare and how to fight principalities and powers of darkness (when was the last time you heard one of those?). Christians cannot just sit comfortably as sons and daughters only, we need to rise up to be soldiers and warriors too! Prayer meetings cannot remain as they are in mild and moderate tempo attended by a few faithful souls, instead we need to be more intense, prophetic and Spirit-led and we need to mobilise the whole church to pray and intercede. And remember, praying together as a church gathered together is entirely different from on our own or in small groups. When we pray together as a church gathered intentionally to worship and pray, not as a small part of a committee meeting or cell group Bible study, we are focused, we are intentional and we express our belief, desire and hunger in a significant way. I believe God honors it when we do that – gather together as a church to pray and intercede. This has been the way of the church for a long time, don’t let some shallow contemporary theology change it! The more active the devil gets, the more we need to pray. Like Bill Hybels said, we are “too busy NOT to pray”! We need to pray more both individually and corporately. We need to let God arise and let His enemies scatter. As you walk with the Lord today, don’t be fooled, the devil is still alive and active. At the same time, remember too that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1Jn.4:4). Therefore, take up your full armor of God and pray in the Spirit at all times – fight the battles God has called you to – fight from His victory and be victorious always! Have a great day!

Today’s Bible Text: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. ” (1Pet.5:8)
