2 Peter 3:8
Dear friends, don’t ignore this fact: One day with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.
Time works differently for humans and for God. We exist on the temporal realm whilst He exists on the eternal realm.
The Psalmist, some think it’s Moses, writes in Psalms 90:4-
Indeed, in your sight a thousand years are like a single day, like yesterday–already past– like an hour in the night.
This brings me great comfort. It tells me:
- God operates differently from human understanding. His concept of timing differs.
- And yet, He is not a liar and will act on what He has promised.
And here is my greatest comfort, from these verses.
I imagine that those who go to be with God, having passed on in this life, now exist in His timeframe.
Imagine your loved one, closing their eyes and breathing their last in this life. They depart not just this earth, but this time. They open their eyes, and they awake to God’s heaven and they say hello to their Lord, seeing Him face to face. And not just that, they say hello to His time.
It may take decades before we join them in Heaven. But it is but a brief moment to them. There is no need to pine or long, because, if this were true, the reunion is quick!
Imagine … they just set foot unto this paradise with God, and they hear knocking at Heaven’s gates.
Guess who came to join them?
