Revelation 22:7 (ESV)
And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.
Jesus’ words encourage the readers of Revelation.
He is coming soon.
Sometimes, as we struggle with the pain and disappointment of this fallen world, we wonder about when Jesus is coming.
We wonder about why He says ‘soon’ but it’s taking so long?
I remember returning from a work trip overseas and my son (who came to meet me at the airport) knew I had bought him a gift. While we ate dinner at the airport, he tried to unzip various compartments of my luggage to see where the gift was. His excitement could not be contained and he was eager.
My reply to him was “Soon, son. Soon.”
But the words ‘SOON’ meant an eternity to my 5 year old.
But it meant ’60 minutes, as soon as we finish our meal and head on home, you can have it.’
When I ponder my own suffering in this life, I ask God ‘When Father?’
He replies, ‘Soon.’
2 Peter 3:8 (NIV)
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
