Day 71

by Rev Joel Yong

Ruth 2:19-20
Her mother-in-law asked her, “Where did you gather grain today? Just where did you work? May the man who paid attention to you be blessed.” So Ruth told her mother-in-law about the person with whom she worked. She said, “The man I worked with today is named Boaz.” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May the LORD bless him. The LORD hasn’t stopped being kind to people–living or dead.” Then Naomi told her, “That man is a relative of ours. He is a close relative, one of those responsible for taking care of us.”

Accidents don’t just happen.
Coincidences are more than just coincidences.

Do you believe that?
Of all the fields that Ruth could have gone gleaning at- she gleaned at Boaz’s field and he was a close relative of Naomi!

How did that happen?
I see:

  1. The hand of God leading us even when we do not yet know it.
  2. Mercy being prepared for us, even when we do not expect it or wonder how it can come to befall us.
  3. A larger plan that we do not yet see, unfolding.

Matthew 1 after all lists the genealogy of Jesus’ family tree- and here is an extract:

Matthew 1:5
Salmon and Rahab were the father and mother of Boaz. Boaz and Ruth were the father and mother of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse,

God doesn’t appear as a character in the book of Ruth with lines of His own but He sure is moving in the midst of all the events! He is still present and not absent!
