A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.
O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God. Selah But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
David was worthy of praise for his piety, courage and skill.
Yet there were many who hated him!
Surprise, surprise- everyone has people who hate them.
David’s enemies said he would not be saved.
But he knows better.
He leans on God and proclaims God as his shelter and shield.
He uses this phrase “lifter of my head”.
It refers to one hanging his head in shame or despair or disappointment at what has beset him. But God comes and turns things around- the lifter of his head.
Is God your trusted lifter of your head?
Hang in there – look at Him, not at the insults or negativity flying all around you- keep praying and waiting … He is coming for you.
