The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.
This verse is set in the context of Israel having survived a savage Assyrian attack and living under captivity.
When Christ came many years later, Israel found itself to be living under Roman occupation too.
These were not glorious times for the nation.
But in the midst of darkness, Jesus shone as its hope and salvation.
Our God is one who promises to restore us, as we turn and seek Him, repentant of our errant ways.
A season of darkness need not be forever – God’s light can brighten up our darkest days.
Turn to Him and He will come and rescue us.
