Day 215

by Rev Joel Yong

Ezekiel 2:3-5
And he said to me, Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. The descendants also are impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord God. And whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house) they will know that a prophet has been among them.

How tragic- the people of Israel … chosen by God, became a nation that disobeyed His words.

The disobedience was for more than a single generation and God decides to send them Ezekiel to warn them, rebuke them and correct them.

But the chances of them humbling themselves and repenting are slim- even then God says, at least a prophet was sent to warn them.

Ezekiel has a running theme – one whereby individual responsibility is emphasized.
Each person is responsible for their own sin.
Ezekiel is also responsible for carrying out God’s given task of warning the nation. How they respond- is not his responsibility.
But if he shirks his responsibility- then he will be punished for not even obeying God’s instruction himself!

Don’t spend too much time focusing on what ‘he/she did wrong’ – focus instead on what your responsibilities and mistakes are.
That is what we are accountable for.
