So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed, and I retained no strength. Then I heard the sound of his words, and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep with my face to the ground. And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.
Matthew Henry wrote: “Whenever we enter into communion with God, it becomes us to have a due sense of the infinite distance between us and the holy God. How shall we, that are dust and ashes, speak to the Lord of glory? ”
Daniel was fully aware of the distance between himself and God, though he was already a pious man.
What more, sinners like the rest of us?
In the end, it is by grace, that each of us are able to stand before the holy God.
By the grace, offered to us through the sacrifice of Jesus upon the Cross – so doing, He paid for our sins and took our punishment upon Himself. We are thus free and able to be all God called us to be.
Able to stand before the holy God and commune with Him, face to face.
