The Supremacy of Christ

His SUPREMACY demands our SURRENDER. At the Name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Day 278

by Rev Joel Yong

Acts 21:10-14
While we were staying for many days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, Thus says the Holy Spirit, This is how the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. When we heard this, we and the people there urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. And since he would not be persuaded, we ceased and said, Let the will of the Lord be done.

Having heard that Paul would be persecuted-his friends urged him not to go to Jerusalem.

It is natural after all- to be concerned for the welfare of someone you care for.

But Paul was concerned for more than his own welfare. He was concerned for the spread of the gospel – even if he had to die in the midst of doing so..

He had a different perspective from his friends.

And it happened- he was arrested in the Temple.

Acts 21:30
Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut.

I wonder what Paul thought.
Perhaps he held his breath and thought “This is it Lord, this is where I die like Stephen.”
After all Paul, before his conversion, was an audience member in Stephen’s stoning.

He was probably ready for it.
If one no longer fears the end of life nor the loss of fame and fortune but consider these things nothing, treasuring instead the gospel, then the fears, anxiety, worries of this world and mortal life will cease to have a hold over us.

We end up living for His Kingdom.
Because we prize not, this existence and its attractions.
