Day 308

by Rev Joel Yong

Ephesians 6:11-13
Put on all the armor that God supplies. In this way you can take a stand against the devil’s strategies. This is not a wrestling match against a human opponent. We are wrestling with rulers, authorities, the powers who govern this world of darkness, and spiritual forces that control evil in the heavenly world. For this reason, take up all the armor that God supplies. Then you will be able to take a stand during these evil days. Once you have overcome all obstacles, you will be able to stand your ground.

Too many have said “I would change using my own willpower, there is no need for God.”
And fail.

The apostle makes it clear.
This is not just something we can deal with using human effort.
The temptation to sin and our own sinful nature beckons to us- constantly.
In fact there are things to be addressed in the spiritual realm.

We need a boost if we are to tackle such challenges. We need the protection that God offers us so that we do not get struck down the first time we face up to such evil and temptation.

These virtues and essentials of the faith are, what will keep us standing firm in God.

Ephesians 6:14-18
So then, take your stand! Fasten truth around your waist like a belt. Put on God’s approval as your breastplate. Put on your shoes so that you are ready to spread the Good News that gives peace. In addition to all these, take the Christian faith as your shield. With it you can put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Also take salvation as your helmet and the word of God as the sword that the Spirit supplies. Pray in the Spirit in every situation. Use every kind of prayer and request there is. For the same reason be alert. Use every kind of effort and make every kind of request for all of God’s people.

God has given us these essentials not just as a To Do list but rather as disciplines and truths that would protect us and keep us stable and secure in Him as we traverse the challenges of life.

We would do well to heed His words.
Can you imagine casting aside a Kevlar helmet and a bulletproof vest just because it’s hot to wear one and cumbersome, and walking into a war zone unprotected?
Yes- it wouldn’t be very smart at all.
And we wouldn’t last very long.
