1 Thessalonians 2:14-16
For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea. For you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all mankind by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved—so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God’s wrath has come upon them at last!
The Greeks persecuted the Thessalonian church in the same way the church in Jerusalem was persecuted by its fellow men.
The writer says that the Jerusalem persecution of the church- displeased God and was a disservice to mankind.
Because it was of paramount importance that the gospel be shared to the nations!
It’s a treasure that should not be withheld.
It is necessary and beneficial for mankind to receive it in order to escape destruction due to bondage to sin.
Let me explain it this way:
Withholding it – would be like withholding water from a man dying of thirst!
It’s a great reminder to me the next time I have an opportunity to share the gospel and when I hesitate to do so, out of fear of being shut down!
